Praxis

I spent the first decade of my career working in nonprofit organizations on human and civil rights and education in Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States, focusing on community engagement, advocacy, and fundraising. A highlight was collaborating with HIAS Israel and a team of volunteers to compile the personal stories of asylum seekers in Israel. This experience continues to shape my research, which I hope will inform practice and policy in ways that improve the lives of ordinary people.

I built and managed relationships with private and institutional donors, trained staff in grant development and project management, and oversaw budget implementation and accountability.

International Advocacy Manager
African Refugee Development Center · Tel Aviv, Israel · Jan 2014 – Aug 2015
I co-published Untold Stories of Success, a compilation of refugee stories, and led tours and site visits for policymakers and the public. I also organized gatherings between communities to improve public perceptions of refugees, and managed the organization’s website, social media, and outreach materials.

I designed and taught a human rights curriculum for refugees and mentored refugee advocates.

I taught English to primary and high school students, designed my own curricula and class materials, and built personalized study plans. I also got to know families through home visits and started a girls’ debate club where students discussed topics relevant to their lives.
